Impregnators and Guard Coatings for Polished Concrete

Impregnators and Sealers essentially perform the same basic function of adding stain protection to
the polished concrete and stone surfaces from water based and oil based spills. These products
delay the inevitable and extend the cleanup time (typically for 24hours) for cleanup before stain
damage to the slab occurs.
Impregnators are truly synergistic coatings whereby the sealing is integral to the slab surface. In
other words, the protection layer is in the slab itself (on the skin layer).

Water Based Impregnators are easy to work with and do not have any VOCs. Generally used on more
porous stone surfaces and concrete polished to matte gloss finishes (400 or 800G typically).

Solvent Based Impregnators are for Dense stone surfaces, heavy exposed aggregate polished concrete
and high polished concrete (1500G+). The solvent has additional installation handling hazards and
considerations based on the solvents needed for the deeper penetration and to penetrate the tighter
pores.

The Guard Sealer is a hybrid in that it has some of the impregators chemistry to protect
synergistically in the slab skin surface as well as a topical layer that can be buffed to increase
the gloss surface levels. Topical Guard coatings require more maintenance because the top surface
can dull from microscratches from abrasive materials embeded in our shoes (much like marble floors
that are softer stone whereby you can see the traffic wear pattern over time). The beauty of
Guard Sealer is that a simple deep clean and recoat and buff will fill in the microscratches and
restore the high gloss
