The story behind HYCON’s product development
In 2024, HYCON expanded its tool offering to the concrete cutting and coring segment by introducing two new tools—the HPS12 Chain Saw and the HHS20 Handsaw—and upgrading the HCS20 Cut-off Saw. These additions complete HYCON's product lineup for concrete cutting and coring, aligning with our goal of delivering lightweight and modern tools that compete effectively with alternative solutions in the market.
The HYCON Power Drive – WE DON’T BLOW SEALS
The defining feature of all three saws is the HYCON Power Drive, the only purpose-built hydraulic motor specifically designed for handheld hydraulic tools. This motor stands out for its compact, streamlined design, integrating all essential components into a single, efficient package.
The motor’s standout feature is its ability to manage up to 40 bars of return pressure, approximately three times higher than standard hydraulic motors typically found in similar tools. This exceptional capacity allows operators to work seamlessly with significantly longer hoses without concerns about complications or motor seal failures. As a result, tools equipped with the HYCON Power Drive ensure maximum uptime, enabling users to be on the job rather than in the shop.

In the fast-paced and ever-evolving world of the equipment rental industry, the partnerships we build with our suppliers and vendors play a pivotal role in our success. These associate members go above and beyond, providing exceptional products, service, and support that helps keep our industry thriving. This year’s honorees are Darrell and Keith Johnson of the Johnson Company. Keith and
Darrell have built trust the old-fashioned way: by showing up, listening, and doing what they say they’ll do- whether that’s sales, training, product support, parts, or helping a rental member hit a deadline. Along with Amelia Palmer, their steady advocacy for our industry and their day-in, day-out commitment to rental customers have elevated service standards across our region. It’s our honor to present Darrell, Keith and the Johnson Company team with the 2025 Northwest Rental Conference Excellence in Partnership Award.

Blade Life vs Cutting Speed
May 21st, 2019
Typically, there is an inverse relationship between cutting speed and
blade life. If a saw operator makes a change, such as increasing cutting
pressure to make a blade cut faster, blade life will tend to be shortened
as a result. Likewise, if an operator wants to extend the blade’s life, he
can reduce cutting pressure and cut slower. Each job is different, and
labor cost also needs to be added to the equation to arrive at the most
cost-efficient solution.
How diamond blades work
May 16th, 2019
Diamond blades provide cutting through mutual erosion of the material
(concrete, etc.) and the segment, or rim, of the diamond blade. Diamond
crystals are embedded throughout a blade’s rim, suspended in a metal
matrix. As the crystals either get crushed or fall out of the rim, it is
essential that the matrix wears down at an optimal rate to expose new
diamonds to continue efficient cutting. If the matrix fails to wear down
fast enough, the rim will glaze over and cutting will become much more
difficult and slow. If the matrix wears down too quickly, crystals will be
lost before their usefulness has expired. The blade may appear to cut very
fast, but the life of the blade will be greatly shortened. Years of experience,
extensive testing and experimentation have gone into developing
the DITEQ diamond blade line. If you have any questions about which
blade to use for a particular application, just give us a call – we’ll be glad
to help you with a recommendation.

Is using the correct Shibuya approved grease really that important?
As one of our customers in FL. found out the expensive way, Yes it’s very critical to use the correct grease. After replacing the Armature and No.2 Gear and used the grease they had in the shop, They stripped the new armature gear in only 2-3 holes drilled. $300+ Lesson learned.
Core Bits Glazing (Drilling stops or slows down)
- Cause Too High of RPM \ Remedy (Use correct RPM for bit size.) See Chart
- Cause Too Much feed pressure \ Remedy (Use less down pressure.)
- Cause Aggregate is too hard \ Remedy (Use Softer Bond.)
- Cause Too Mutch Water \ Remedy (Slurry water should look like "Coffee with cream")
To remove Glazing- Open the bit with an abrasive material (Such as sand, concrete block, cinder block, Asphalt, etc.).
